We started selling maps way back in 1981, servicing bookshops, stationers and other retail outlets in the South East of England.

The business gradually started changing to a mainly mail order Internet company in 1995 - one of the first to see the possibilities of the Internet and initially 75% of our customers were based in the USA. Now the biggest proportion of our 30,000 + customers are in the UK. Our customers range from well known PLCs etc to small businesses and thousands of indvidual members of the public, many of whom have been buying maps from us for years.

The business operated from 1986 until 2006 in the small village of Elstead, near Godalming in Surrey - and the name was changed from SCMS (Stephen Colebrooke Map Service) to "Elstead Maps" not long after moving there.

In November 2008, after almost a lifetime in Surrey, "Elstead" moved to sunny East Devon! Initially based in Honiton, three years almost to the day since moving to Devon it moved to Sidmouth. A little bit of "Surrey by the sea". A perfect location.

The business has turned full circle in recent years and I'm now back to running everything by myself but nowadays with the help of outside agencies and suppliers etc. Despite the automated nature of the web site, I am still able to give personal service when necessary - just give me a ring or send an email for help or advice on choosing the right map - a customised mapping service is also available. Making A Purchase

Just browse our Catalog, and click on any items that you wish to buy and put them into the shopping cart. After you have finished your selection, click on "Order" and you will be asked for a few details that we need to be able to satisfy the order.

We accept credit and debit card payment. If you are shopping from North America or anywhere else, place your order and your credit card company will convert the transaction to US Dollars or your own currency.

We accept Visa, Mastercard, Debit Cards and PayPal. You may send your credit card information via phone, snail mail or over the Internet. Please note that the quickest and most secure method of paying for your purchase is by using the secure payment pages on our web site.

Your payments are fully secure. The payment pages are hosted on the CreditCall secure servers and we do not see your credit card details.

PROBLEMS?
If you have any difficulty making a payment or completing a purchase please do not hesitate to telephone, or send us an email explaining your problem.

If there is a problem with making a card payment this can sometimes be resolved by trying again later. Alternatively, please either use the "Telephone Card Details" option after placing your order on the web site, telephone or fax your order.
Shipping And Handling
Standard Delivery Charges are based on the value of your order as follows. VAT is charged on the delivery if your order contains an item subject to VAT. Books and maps are zero rated for VAT and the delivery charge does not contain VAT for these items. VAT will however be charged for delivery if your order includes an item which is fully VAT rated (such as a globe or cd-rom).

If you leave delivery instructions with your order please note that most orders for wall maps & globes and other products too large for delivery by standard post are despatched by carrier and cannot be delivered without a signature but a card will be left if you are not in. Alternatively delivery can be made to a neighbour or a work address.

Standard Delivery is by 1st Class Post or carrier, depending on the product being ordered.
Personalised products, framed maps etc have different delivery times, see the product details.

URGENT ORDERS FOR STANDARD PRODUCTS.
Next-Day Delivery = £10.00 (12.00 inc vat)

Orders for Next-Day delivery must be received by 11.00 am Monday-Friday.
Next-Day orders received on a Friday will be delivered on Monday.

Items shipped by next-day carrier are delivered from 9.00 am to close of business Monday-Friday. In-stock items ordered over a weekend or a UK Bank Holiday are shipped on the next working day.

Delivery times for standard products depends on stock availability - if in doubt, please phone. Some products sent direct from suppliers may also not be available for priority or next-day delivery. Different charges apply for large products to Off-Shore or Highlands & Islands delivery addresses. We will send you a quote before despatch in these circumstances.

SCOTTISH HIGHLANDS & ISLANDS
We use different carriers, but the following postcodes are usually regarded as Highlands and Islands and subject to higher delivery rates if your order is being sent by carrier: All AB, DD7-11; FK17-22; G83; HS; IM; IV; KA27-KA28; KW; PA20-50; PA60-78; PH17 - PH44; ZE This list is subject to change at any time, and may not cover all the carriers we deal with.

EUROPE
The prices below are for standard air-mail for small to medium packages. Delivery by airmail is approximately three days to Europe.

Heavy items (very large books, large format atlases etc) will be despatched by surface mail for the same prices. Delivery by surface mail to Western Europe can be up to two weeks and to Eastern Europe surface mail can be up to five weeks.

Please contact us before ordering if you need a quote for quicker delivery of heavy items.

LARGER ITEMS and LONG WALL MAPS (to off-shore & overseas destinations)

Owing to the risk of damage, we do not ship globes, framed maps and raised relief wall maps, and certain desk mats, to countries outside mainland Great Britain.

Packages longer than 90cm* cannot be shipped outside mainland GB by Royal Mail and can only be shipped by carrier at a much higher cost - please confirm in the Special Delivery Instructions that you would like a quote for the carrier shipping costs. We will not despatch your order until you have agreed to the revised shipping charge.

Mainland GB is defined by carriers as excluding Scottish Highlands & Islands, off-shore and Northern Ireland If your postcode falls within the following postcodes HS; IM; IV; KA27-KA28; KW; PA20-PA50; PA60-PA78; PH 17-PH44; ZE; the following prices are applicable to items which have to be sent by carrier. Items which can be sent by standard Royal Mail are not affected.

(* Packaging will take a 90cm map beyond the 90cm Royal Mail limit, so if you want a wall map to be sent by standard shipping to an off-shore or overseas destination please choose a wall map with the longest dimension less than 85cm).

REST OF THE WORLD (Includes North America)

The prices below are for standard air-mail for small to medium packages. Delivery by airmail is approximately five days to most worldwide destinations.

Heavy items (very large books, large format atlases etc) will be despatched by surface mail for the same prices. Delivery by surface mail to North America can be up to six weeks, to South America, Africa and Asia up to 8 weeks and to Australasia up to 12 weeks.

Delivery Schedule
Orders are despatched Monday to Friday usually within 24-48 hours. Delivery is by 1st Class post or carrier, depending on the product being ordered. Personalised products are around 7 working days and some framed maps are 1-2 weeks during busy periods. A guaranteed next-day service is also available for many standard products.

Orders sent to destinations outside the UK is by fast air-mail. Orders to Europe usually arrive in 2-3 working days, to North America and the Rest of the World, usually 5-7 working days. "Usually" allows for the normal variations in overseas post.

A personal and efficient service!

If we cannot fulfill your order immediately we will usually give you an estimated delivery date within 48 hours (Monday to Friday). Please phone us if you need availability information more urgently.
Back Orders
If your item is not in stock, we will back order for you. You will always be emailed with the option to cancel your order if you would rather not wait.

You will receive a VAT invoice by email around 24 hours after placing your order, and in addition a copy of this invoice stating the total amount charged to your credit card will be emailed to you just before despatch. You can cancel your order** at any time before the order is placed with one of our suppliers.

(**Please note that Bespoke map orders, ie maps made specially for a customer cannot be cancelled or the maps returned unless the map is faulty. We supply full information to the customer about these maps before the order is placed with our supplier and no order is placed until the format has been agreed with the customer).

Tax Charges
For orders made from the UK or the European Union, 17.5% VAT is added. All other orders are VAT free and you should click the exempt button to reduce VAT to zero .
Credit Card Security
Your payments are fully secure.

The payment pages are hosted on the CreditCall secure servers and we do not see your credit card details.

We have been selling maps and guides in Southern England since 1981 and have been on the Internet since 1995. As far as we are aware, none of our customers have ever had credit card details stolen or abused when buying products from our business.

Guarantee
You can order in confidence. If your order is not up to your expectations you may return your purchase for a full refund within 10 days of receipt. (But please see our Returns Policy for customised products and framed maps).

For a full refund, the non-faulty book or map must be returned in mint, unused condition, in our original packing. Non-faulty goods not required by the customer are returned at the customer's expense & risk - please ensure you send all returns by recorded delivery.

In many cases your map or book etc will have to be returned direct to a supplier - please contact us before sending any item back so we can advise you of the correct returns address.

Please note CD-ROMs are not supplied on a trial basis and we cannot accept returns of non-faulty CD-ROM products unless the package is unopened and the software seal is intact. Please ensure that you are fully aware of the specifications for system requirements and that the CD-ROM will provide the information you need. Technical information about the CD-ROMs on our web site is provided by the publishers. If any further information is required before purchasing a product we will be happy to take this up with the appropriate publisher before accepting your order.

Cookies are used on this shopping site to keep track of the contents of your shopping cart once you have selected an item, to store delivery addresses if the address book is used and to store your details if you select the 'Remember Me' Option.Data collected by this site is used to:

Returns Policy

FAULTY & DAMAGED GOODS

We must be notified of damaged goods or discrepancies within 10 days of receipt and we will arrange return or replacement at our expense.

Faulty goods can be returned within any reasonable time. Please contact us as soon as the fault is identified and we will advise you of the procedure for your product.

In the event of your order arriving with the packaging clearly damaged please do not accept delivery from the carrier until you have inspected your order. If the product you ordered is damaged please refuse delivery and report this to us.

NON-DELIVERY

We need to be advised of non-delivery within 7 days of the expected delivery time.

In the rare event that your order is lost in the post it will be replaced as soon as possible at our expense (subject to available stocks) or a full refund will be arranged.

Please note that no refunds or replacements can be made unless a claim is made within a reasonable time following despatch.

PRODUCT NOT REQUIRED

If your order is not up to your expectations you may return your purchase for a refund within 10 days of receipt. (Except customised products which have been specially made for the customer and are not returnable. Please note that framed maps are individually made for customers and also not returnable).

For a refund, the non-faulty product must be returned in mint, unused condition. Non-faulty goods not required by the customer are returned at the customer's expense and risk. Please ensure you send all returns by recorded delivery or a carrier with sufficient insurance to cover in case of damage in transit.

CD-ROMs are not supplied on a trial basis and we cannot accept returns of non-faulty CD-ROM products unless the package is unopened and the software seal is intact.

Orders paid for by credit card will have a refund made to the credit card. (Our postage charges will not be refunded on non-faulty goods).

Many items are sent direct from our suppliers so please contact us before sending your item back so we give you the correct returns address for your product.
